I am in LOVE...and it's name is Java

java

Last night i got a call from my brother and sister-in-law; it had to do with a stray kitten. It seems this little fluff ball had been hanging out in their backyard meowing all day. They have a wooded area behind their house that they will often see other cats coming and going, this one did not want to go. In fact by the time I got there it had walked right up their back porch like it owned the joint.

It immediately came right up to me, still meowing of course. Even though it was extremely friendly- i thought it might bolt at any minute, so I quickly got it into the carrier i had brought along- with a little food- i suspected it must have been very hungry by this time.

We all proceeded to head back behind the house into the woods to see if there were any more kittens. Thankfully, I had the wonderful assistance of Heather from MWHS guiding me through all of this- thanks Heather!

As we walked through I listened carefully and check all nooks and crannies to see if there were other little ones just too shy to come out. After a while, with not sight or sound we headed back, my focus on the little black and white fluff ball- who we could hear meowing all along the way.

Once home, this little one proceeded to just wail and wail all night. I had set up the veri-kennel so as to put a litter box in, some bedding and some food. We tried to sleep, but it was here and there.
Certainly not a sound sleep, more like worried when I did not hear a peep.

Early this morning I got up and thought it was time to get to know this little one a bit more. So, I brought in my coffee, laptop and camera- had to get some shots in! As soon as I opened the cage door the little one, popped out and right over to my lap. All this little one needed was love, and I had it to spare abundantly. For the next hour I typed away checking email and such with the fluff ball walking all over the keyboard. It then walked over to my coffee, now a bit cold- stuck its little nose in and had a sip. As it pulled it little black head with white chin up- I noticed the white under its mouth was a bit muddy looking-coffee colored you could say. So, that is how Java got his/her name!

Java and I took a bit of a snooze together, with her lying right on my stomach- again as if she owned the joint. After awhile, she got up, had her photo session and then I got the call from Heather. It was time for me to let Java go. She was to go to the Marlborough Animal Hospital to get checked out and make sure she was okay. And then she would be picked up by another volunteer from the shelter and put into a foster home. Come to think of it, not sure I even said a proper good bye to Java, probably better that way, it was hard to let her go- though I knew it was the best thing for her.

As with everything else in my life right now- there was a reason Java came when she did- and left just as quickly, a reminder to stay true to myself and to always take of the little ones! Be well little Java.

Soul Meets Body

Lately i have listening to just about any music i can get my hands on. For me, music has always been a source of power- it literally feeds me! I went without for such a long time, that now i am just completely gorging myself on it. I have found music in all genres, and liking just about all, but there is one song- it is my song. Soul Meets Body by Death Cab for Cutie The song just seems to make me feel like i could go anywhere. I have been running to it just about every morning- as well as listening to it in the car. I guess the tempo is just right- and the words,

"Cause in my head there’s a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
where they’re far more suited than here"

i guess that pretty much says it all right now for me. I am just trying to find my place...gotta go listen one more time!

Featured on CSSDrive!

Well, I have finally made it! Yesterday i recieved the best news possible, CSSDrive has selected my site as one of it's featured sites! I consider it quite a honor to be listed alongside so many wonderful designers! I have worked hard to get my site to this point. And while it still needs alot of work- it is moving in a fine direction.

The CSSDrive group can be a tough one, but i look forward to all critiques. The way i look at, if someone takes the time to give me any feedback good or bad, then my work has somehow effected them, and that is never a bad thing! Many thanks to CSSDrive!

Reflection

I have been going through immense changes the last several months, i am not sure what the cause was, or should i say the catalyst, could it be i hit a milestone in my life (turning 35 freaked me out a bit) or i just suddenly woke up from the fog i had been sleeping in, but after today's conversation with my brother i knew there was no turning back. I think i had tricked myself into thinking that since i had made the first move, that i could now just sit back and see what move played out next. I now know i need to be more proactive then ever. I need to get to the next phase, which will be the most difficult, but once i can get through that i am fairly certain i can make it through the rest.

to be continued....

I have always found the self portrait the hardest assignment. How do you capture yourself in the moment, realistically? I have been working on this for the past 3 days and this what i have come up with- it may not be great, but it is honest - it is just me. And for the record, i like me- i like where i am at. It is not pretentious, it is just coming to terms with who i am and liking that person. Who know's tomorrow i might want to disown me!

Live at Last!

Last Thursday, the highly aniticipated Escher Group website finally went live! I have been working on it for almost a year now. It has not been a full time project for me at Escher, but none the less a long project! I owe many people thanks for their assitance with this, of course all Escher folks and then the good people at sitepoint.com, in particular Paul O' B who seems to always be online!

While this site is far from finished it was in good shape to go live. As we know, a site is never really finsished and ready to go live- so you just have to get it to a place where you feel comfortable with the results and ready for any all feedback.

I had hoped to record more of my day to day workings on each section of the site, as this was a complete learning process in css positioning. Now that the crunch is over, i look forward to going back and documenting just some of the highlights of the project.

Heavenly Sounds

Last night i had the pleasure of having dinner with my brother Jim and meeting his lovely girlfriend, Liz. We had dinner at very nice place, Evoo and then headed off to the SkyBar to hear the incredible sounds of Mark Nelson. Prior to mark performing, another very talented muscian, by the name of Patrick performed an all instrumental acoustic set- really nice sound - very talented!

As Mark took the stage, it brough back many happy memories for me- as i have not seen him perform in years. I have always felt fortunate to have been introduced to his voice and music. His voice is breathtaking - pure, strong and tender all at the same time. Now, i am not a music afficiando (just know what i like) and i thought the acoustics at the SkyBar were fantastic- every so haunting.

I look forward to Mark next performance!
