Grant Lee Phillips @ The Paradise
Last night my brother Jim and I headed over to The Paradise to check out Grant Lee Phillips. He is out on the road to promote his new album, Strangelet. This is my third time seeing Grant, and he was nothing but spectacular! He is a quirky guy who knows how to hang with the crowd, and belt out the music- and last night...he just rocked it!
The previous two times i saw him was at TT the Bears and i thought his sound was pretty good there, more so for Virgina Creeper, then for Nineteeneightes. Anyhow, with a bit of a slow start at The Paradise, Grant was in perfect tune by his fourth song, Honey Don't Think; one of my personal favorites. He went on to play many songs from the new album, which i am not as acquainted with yet, i am still listening to Virginia Creeper and old Grant Lee Buffalo Days, which he served up with Fuzzy and a rousing rendition of Jupiter and Teardrop driving us all into a frenzy.
I think what I enjoy most about Grant Lee Phillips, is not matter what i am listening to at the moment, punk, hardcore, experimental...i can always turn him on and be satisfied. His music truly soothes my soul. I look forward to next year, when he hopefully returns to Boston!
